Simulation training for nursing skills is performed at our school as part of a the course of basic nursing science, in order to give students first practical training based on knowledge they have acquired from nursing lectures, and lead to a better understanding of such training by restructuring their knowledge. The most important purpose of such training is to foster students' ability to comprehend and to take action during simulated nursing practice, improving their proficiency levels. At our school, the method of training consists of a combination of demonstrations by teachers and group learning, which lets students instruct each other under a leader elected from among them. The present study was performed to determine the difficulties of learning encountered by nursing practice students during simulation training and their ways of coping with such difficulties. Four categories were extracted as the difficulties that leaders of the students encountered, and three categories were extracted as the coping actions for each difficulty. Likewise, four categories were extracted as the difficulties that members of the students encountered, and four categories were extracted as the coping actions for each difficulty. In the initial stage of training for life support of nursing skills, the leaders and the members all experienced those difficulties, but, they started to take the coping actions by degrees, thereafter they learned how to act and solve the problems they encountered. It means that they learned how to deal with the experiments and also understand their roles in their study in order to play their roles. Here we report these results including some suggestions that were obtained throughout this research
