This paper examines current situation on 'Career Education'and job assistance programmes either in formal and non-formal education in Bangladesh, referring to some examples of Japanese and EU policies and systems on youth employability and career development. The examination is based on the interviews to students, teachers and education-related officers and people in Bangladesh. It highlights a different socio-economic situation from Japan and its impacts for career formation of youth, i.e. poverty, corruption, a big demand for jobs in abroad. This also shows lack of linkage between education and world of work, and of public/private social supporting systems for employment and youth development. The challenges of career education, as an alternative vocational education and training, are its programme is still limited within the job-related capacity building, and not extended to take account of individual and community capacity development. This paper also addresses the needs of alternative approach of 'Career Education'and community development with critical views on 'economic success equals individual/social happiness'in Bangladesh and other developing countries, and of alternative views in 'Career Education'in Japan to encourage youth to know the global imbalance.
