Education is one of the main pillars for poverty reduction in developing countries. There are 860 million adults worldwide are illiterate and 113 million children who do not have a chance to attend schools. Non-formal Education (NFE) approach is emphasized to contribute achieving the goals of Education for All (EFA), as it is learner-centred and needs-based approach with flexible and prompt actions. It contributes to provide basic education for adult has not gone to school and/or out-of-school children, who are usually the most vulnerable people in their societies. It also provides opportunities for lifelong learning for individual so that they will contribute their communities to be empowered as a learning society. This paper introduces NFE and Community Learning Centre (CLC) programmes by a Bangladesh NGO, Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM), with socio-economic background in Bangladesh, and DAM's approach for NFE and CLC. This also examines how and in what way community empowerment concept can be effective in poverty reduction and social development in so-called developing countries. In the end, the paper tries to examine the future opportunities how Japanese social education and NFE in Asia can exchange their experiences to achieve EFA goals.
