One of the factors which causes differences among individuals when studying languages appears to be learning strategies. According to the questionnaire given to my students, it was found that the techniques used by them were very different from those used by successful language learners in Japan presented by Takeuchi (2003). It was found that movies are an excellent tool that can make learning and using English more meaningful and easier for the students. In this research, I devised some activities intended to help the students try various learning strategies that make use of movies. As a result, most students responded positively to these activities. However, from the negative responses of some students, it was discovered that an explicit explanation is needed about the specific strategies intended in each activity. It was also found that some strategies were very applicable to these activities using movies, while some required more revision and step by step instruction.
