L'education genetique is a pedagogical design that Teruhisa Horio drew through mainly studying the thought of France. This Horio's design had a high popularity in Japan until 1970-1980s. But today, the current studies in pedagogy of Japan give two ambivalent evaluations to it. That is, one study considered that it was what oppresses children, and another study considers that it is what releases children from oppression. Why does such ambivalence arise? How can we cancel such ambivalence? The purpose of this paper is to explore an answer to these questions through a re-examination of "l'education genetique".
