This study examined how self-other differentiation related to embarrassment and empathy in the latter half of the second year and what type of parenting related to self-other differentiation, embarrassment, and empathy. Self-other differentiation task was administered to 18- to 24-month-olds. In this task, they had to imitate pretend actions modeled at a level that was in proportion to complexity of the actions, and the measure was the highest level in their imitation. Their parents provided information on children s tendency to embarrass and empathize and parental tendency to practice some types of parenting. Results suggested that self-other differentiation level negatively related to tendency to embarrass and positively related to tendency to empathize. Moreover, children s tendency to empathize was positively correlated only with parents' inducing another child to tell the reason for his/her failure that was witnessed by their own child. As a result, it is indicated that empathy was aroused at higher self-other differentiation level in contrast to embarrassment and that observation learning of parental behaviors led to child's empathic reactions.本研究の目的 方 法 結 果 考 察
