A wideband dielectric resonator (DR) antenna composed of a rectangular DR perforated with a horizontal tunnel is proposed. The TE^y_<112> made of DR is significantly perturbed such that its electric field on the top surface of the DR is similar to that of the TE^y_<111> mode. The band of TE^y_<112> mode is merged with thtat of the TE^y_<111> mode to achieve a wide bandwidth of 20% (4.76-5.86 GHz). The proposed DR antenna can be used in WLAN 802.11a applications.
