The purpose of this study was to clarify the factors that have an influence on teamwork in palliative care units. The 15 items were arrived as the factors that have an influence on teamwork from literature, and conducted a questionnaire about these items. In this study, questionnaires were sent to 36 palliative care units in all over the country as of January 1998. The respondents were 280 medical staffs. The findings of this study were as follows; 1) the group that has no hierarchy in their team showed significantly higher scores of evaluation of teamwork than the group that has hierarchy, 2) the group that has coordinator in their team showed significantly higher scores of evaluation of teamwork than the group that has no coordinator, 3) the scores on 15 items were compared the group which has nice teamwork with the other. In all of 15 items, the average of group that has nice teamwork was significantly higher (p<.O1), 4) on the factor analysis for these 15 items, 2 factors were sampled as the effect on teamwork : communication with respect for each other, professional knowledge and ability. These findings suggest it is imperative for team members to respect each other's differences, to encourage better communication, to develop skills and expert knowledge of palliative care.
