H.264/MPEG-4 AVC is an encoding technique, in wide use because of its remarkable coding efficiency, and already featured on various video distribution services with mobile devices. However, videos for mobile devices have several restrictions i.e. low bit rate and poor resolution, and encoding these images always involves quality degradation, especially on even important image areas, like a logos and character strings. In this paper, we propose a high quality picture/logo insertion method for the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. By utilizing its shape and insertion position to control the encoding parameters, the proposed method improves the subjective assessment of the coded inserted-picture quality, rather than Rate-Distortion optimized cost. Experimental results show that the proposed picture insertion method greatly improves the inserted picture quality while maintaining the coding efficiency.
