In this paper we analyzed the performance of OFDMA wireless initial access system since most of the future wireless system is expected to be based on OFDMA systems. OFDMA based wireless initial access is conducted by random initial access code transmission by mobile station its detection by base station. Base station carries out user identification, transmission time delay (TTD) estimation and power adjustment. IEEE 802.16e and IEEE 802.20 are chosen as our target system. For the performance evaluation mean TTD estimation time error, detection failure rate, and mean initial access time are analyzed regarding number of users and SNR. Then, performance analysis is extended to general OFDMA based systems with various system parameters such as cyclic prefix length and initial access channel bandwidth. This analysis can be beneficial as the guideline for designing the future wireless access system
