Performance Evaluation of Wireless Networks With ARQ Schemes and Discrete-Time Channel

In this paper, we present a method to analyze the performance of high-reliability Internet systems in wireless environments with Automatic Repeat ReQuest (ARQ) schemes. Considering the setting up procedure of a data link in wireless networks, we build a Geom/G/1 queue model with a setup strategy to characterize the system operation. By using a discrete-time imbedded Markov chain approach, we analyze the stationary distribution of the system and derive the Probability Generation Functions (P.G.Fs.) of the queue length, the waiting time and the busy period of the system. Numerical results are given to evaluate the performance of different ARQ schemes in terms of the response time of data frames, setup ratio, offered load and utility of the system, and to show the impact of the arrival rate and the rate of the transmission error on these terms.
