This paper proposes a new formulation for the power allocation problem of an IDMA system. The problem is to minimize the total transmitted power such that the signal-to-noise-ratio for each user at the receiver is above a predefined level. Under the new formulation, optimal power vectors can be obtained more easily using a deterministic global optimization technique. A Branch-and-Bound method is devised in this paper to seek for optimal power vectors. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated with numerical results for a system with smaller number of users.
