The purpose of this study was to investigate the experiences of mothers who had mentally disturbed children. Four women were interviewed using semi-structured technique. They were all members of a family association of mental health users. The results suggest that they were caught in chaos at the onset of their children's mental illness and struggled alone to survive their children's crisis. Children's distress urged them to review their lives and threw their identities into question. Most of their children stayed at their parents' home having given up either to use rehabilitation services or to get their jobs. Although the mothers felt that their lives were disrupted, they had wishes to live long for their children. They expressed strong sense of isolation and helplessness in their own families and even in the family association.
