The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of nurses' interaction on school-age children's strategies in facing with venipunctures and injections. Participant observation and interview performed an inductive qualitative approach. The participants were six school-age children who were planed to undergo repeated venipunctures and injections and nine nurses who were accompanied with those children. The observation and interview were recorded and analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that insufficient information given by nurses, gap between nurses and children, and an absence of nurse's attendance caused children's psychological unpreparedness, prolonged fear, weakness of effort for having repeated venipunctures and injections. Whereas, the result also showed that recognition of children's strategies by nurses and giving the children a chance to address their demands made children possible to face with repeated venipunctures and injections without any difficulty. The study suggests the importance of acknowledgment of school-age children' strategies and demands in facing with venipunctures and injections to restore their mastery and self-efficacy.
