• Various types of chain tensioner is used for a timing chain system of an internal combustion engine to maintain a tension of a chain. Above all, the type which contain the buttress threads for shrinkage prevention mechanism contributes to long-life performance of a chain because it can shrink when the chain is hypertension. Buttress threads consist of non-symmetric cross-section threads and its transmission characteristics of force depend on an axial load direction. In this study, the authors measured minute sliding to occur when the vibrational load was added to the buttresss threads in a lock condition. Finally, the mechanism of this sliding was considered from the aspect of elastic deformation.
