This paper describes a fundamental analysis on dynamic rotational slip between male and female buttress threads with static load-carrying and non-slip characteristics, which occurs when the flank faces of a pair of threads contact each other with relative axial speed. The mixed lubrication theory is employed to calculate friction coefficient between contact surfaces, which determines the dynamic behavior of threads, and calculation results are evaluated by comparison with experimental results. The analysis shows the calculation method proposed in this paper can be used to estimate the actual amount of slip.
