Is the essential condition of any science the existence of regularities which can be analyzed and forecast? Indeed this is the case in celestial mechanics. But it is not true of many economic phenomena, although this fallacy is widely accepted or misconceived by almost all mainstream economists. In the celestial world there is only one mechanism operating: Newtonian mechanics, the relativity theory or whatever. In the terrestrial world, however, the multiplicity of mechanisms behind a single phenomenon is common. Hence, there are no such regularities as seen in astronomy in general except under experimental conditions. This very fact leads us to transcendental realism and the need for research on the nature of the socio-economic reality. From this point of view, such rationality as is assumed in microeconomics as the foundation of any economic theory, must be denied, and the result of the denial can be a key to develop a theory of economy as emergent mechanisms in open systems.
