The adsorption properties of clinoptilolite for gas mixture were studied by gas-solid chromatographic method. The results of the investgation were as follows. (I) Oxygen and nitrogen were separated with clinoptilolite column at ordinary temperature as same as with the synthetic zeolites, i.e. Molecular Sieve 5A and 13X. By examination comparing with Linde Molecular Sieve 5A, the results were obtained as follows: (1) As the H.E.T.P. of clinoptilolite column for oxygen and nitrogen were very high, the degree of resolution of two chromatographic peaks was about 1/5 of Molecular Sieve. (2) The degree of separation was almost similar value for Molecular Sieve. (3) The heats of adsorption of oxygen and nitrogen on clinoptilolite measured by the temperature dependence of retention volume were about 2.4 Kcal/mol and 4.0 kcal/mol respectively, and the separation coefficient (S) was showed by following experimental equation; S=0.15 exp (1.6×10^3/RT) (II) Argon was able to separate from oxygen and nitrogen by clinoptilolite column of 0.75m in length at ordinary temperature, but the quantitative analysis of these gases was difficult because of the high H.E.T.P. for nitrogen. Methane was scarcely separated from nitrogen at ordinary temperature. Carbon dioxide eluted above the temperature of 180℃, but the chromatogram was broad and asymmetry (at this temperature oxygen and nitrogen was not separated).
