On March 25, 1918, the Terauchi Government of Japan entered into a Sino-Japanese Military Treaty with the Tuan Chi-jui Government of China. This treaty was aimed at facilitating the invasion of China by the Government of Japan. The purpose of this paper is to show and discuss how the people of the two nations reacted against this treaty. The Materials mainly used to establish public opinion, are two newspapers, the Tokyo Asahi Shinbun and the Ta-kung-pao. The Chinese People feared an intensification of the military invasion by the Japanese and organized a rather strong movement aimed at abolishing this treaty by boycotting Japanese merchandise. It may be hard to believe, but the truth is that the Japanese people were not cool enough to judge the real purpose of this opposition movement.
