The legato playing in the case of Mozart's and Beethoven's sonatas has been describet in the 32th bulletin issued by kyushu Women's Jr.College in 1995. This paper covers J.S.Bach, who was the Baroque period composer and used the keyboard instrument of clavichord as well as Mozart. I choose the cantabile as the object and study the famous players' playing styles or the features for it to compare each players' interpretation for the legato playing. Besides I cover the characteristics of the keyboard instruments in the Bach period, and the common and differences between his handwriting music sheets and publised ones. As a result, for Bach's arts, it is important for the players to determine the dynamics and the tempo for the whole piece, how to phrase, and how much to use the pedals. Therefore, for playing Bach's piece with current pianoforte, the players can express ideal legato by diversifying the touch not by using unneccesary pedals.
