We have begun to teach annually twenty special auditors entrusted by the Education Bureau of Kanagawa Prefecture since 1977 in order to make them certificated teachers for the industrial arts at junior high schools. While, our mechanical laboratories and equipments were for five students, and teachers in charge of the mechanical experiment were only two. Consequently, we could not expect all of them to obtain good learning results by the method of guidance as in the past. So, the author thought out the method to divide twenty students into four or five groups and to have one or two of them make experiments under the direct guidance of teachers, and the rest by TV. For that purpose, the author has been developing the guidance system that consists of VTR, TV, Controller, Still-lever puller, Reset-switch and Video tape recording the learning program. In this system, the experiment is carried out as follows: 1) The learning program recorded on the video tape is transcribed by the VTR and the TV set gives the picture of the first unit process in the experiment. After its explanation and demonstration ends, students are ordered to make it. Next, the VTR is stopped to transcribed by the control system and the picture on the TV disappears. 2) Students do it as indicated, and after finishing it, one of them presses the button of the reset-switch. Then the VTR begins to transcribe the second unit process. 3) A cycle of one unit process as described above is repeated. Students do it in order and finish the experiment. This guidance system could make good the shortage of teachers, equipments, and so on, and the mechanical experiment of auditors has been made efficiently.
