For the practice of the industrial arts and home economy at junior high schools, the teacher is assigned to take charge of as many as forty pupils in class. Enough care for so many at a time is almost impossible for a single teacher. Accordingly it sometimes happens that pupils get hurt during the practice. However this trouble can be avoided if we divide a class into two groups: one group to do self-study and the other to do the practice. As a method of the self-study at such double teaching system the authors adopted "the programmed learning with programmed-text" and then examined its effect and pupils' reaction. It clearly showed that this self-study by the programmed method bore comparison with normal mass teaching and moreover got pupils' high favor.
