With the rapid growth of industry, home is now being deprived of its subjecthood. In political economy home has so far been dealt with only as a consumptive unit and an outlet for manufactured goods as against enterprise, which is a productive unit. But if we grasp home solely from this point of view, it will not be long before home loses sight of the real objective of its own and its essential qualities such as creativity and individuality will gradually cease to exist in a great flood of commodities. The aim of this short thesis is a theoretical inquiry into the way in which to regain subjecthood for home in its economic activities. The following are the main points: 1) to prove by historical facts in the past that home is an independent economic unit and a life unit and therefore performs the function of carrying on productive, as well as consumptive, activities; 2) to survey how this productive function has changed and developed with tho economic progress of society; and 3) to make it clear that this function still survives in home, which is far from being a mere consumptive unit.
