Yukichi Fukuzawa grieved bitterly from his intense Patriotism to see the independence of Japan at the Meiji Restoration invaded. Therefore he made up his mind to educate Japanese as quickly as possible into a modern nation. For this reason he severely attacked the feudal confusion and servility. Under such a condition and circumstances "Onna-Daigaku" became from his youth one book which was always kept in his mind. And his patriotic urge made him publish "Onna-Daigaku-Hyoron" in 1899 with the imminent revision of the treaty before him. I wish to draw your attention to the fact that though he critized violently the feudalism of "Onna-Daigaku", he never entirely denied the traditional virtue of Japanese women.
