Recent tendencies in education no longer aim at forming an ideal person in general, but a person who will probably be needed in the next stage of social development. In my attempt to clarify the present-day conception of ideal personality, it is important to analyse the social processes through which the individual becomes personality, by way of making a special study of Karl Mannheim's views of education. The main thesis of this essay is to study the relations between the personality formation and the economic system which characterizes the modern industrial society. Especially I have tried to investigate the influence of the social status and occupations upon individuals. I want to conclude by saying that different areas of modern industrial society determine different types and forms of ambition by which individual personality is considerably formed. Education should take these problems into account.
