Recently, it seems, young people have founded personal relationships around shared hobbies. This paper discusses the issues related to various areas of association among university students in Nagasaki. By means of surveys, the author investigated their behaviors concerning hobbies and friendships, chosen by three social contexts; fellow hobbyists, co-workers at part-time jobs, and student-based relationships. First of all, respondents' behaviors were divided into two groups. One group has a high commitment to hobby, for instances, spending money, exhibiting a high connection with fellows, belonging to formal organizations, having some intimate relationships to shoppers, therefore constructing wide social relationships. The other group has a low commitment to hobby, for instances, not spending money, not exhibiting any connection with fellows, therefore not constructing any social relationships. In addition, the author found another interesting result, analyzing of correlation coefficients among above mentioned respondents' three behaviors concerning friendships, i.e. finding strong correlation between fellow hobbyists and student-based relationships but not finding any correlation between co-workers at part-time jobs. Therefore the evidence might lead to the conclusion that those two friendships, fellow hobbyists and student-based relationships, have very similar functions to respondents, that is to say, the hobby have same importance equality with university on respondents life.
