関西学院大学における社会福祉実習教育の歩み(1949-1975)

The division of social work was established in the school of humanities, Kwansei Gakuin University in 1949. The fieldwork practicum has been an integral part of its education. Before the students participate in the out-of-class training in the senior, juniors are kept in classroom learning ethics, attitudes, and sense of responsibilities for clients and agencies, interviewing skills and group work methods through lectures, demonstrations, case studies, and readings. Quizzes are given every week and returned to the students in the following week. Interview role-plays are often used for training and recorded in class. The instructors and students review and discuss their performances. Seniors are sent to various social work agencies once a week for a year. After an orientation at each agency, some students workers begin to carry a small number of cases by themselves and others sit in and observe the staff worker's interviews. Supervisory sessions by the staff workers are conducted whenever they are necessary. For professional social workers at these agencies, however, the supervision of students workers are not considered a part of their official duty. Therefore, the fieldwork practicum depends on the personal favors of the supervisors. This is the area both the university and the agencies have to work out in the future.
