X-Y composite nanoparticles of eleven binary systems, in which X is Al, Si, Ge, Cu and Fe, and Y is In, Mg, Pb, Zn, Ni and C_<60>, were prepared by the condensation of Y vapor onto flying X nanoparticles produced in advance by a gas-evaporation technique, under various preparation conditions. The structural and morphological observation of these nanoparticles was carried out by using a transmission electron microscope. The systems were classified into four groups, according to their characteristics. For the first group (Si-In, Al-Pb, Cu-Pb, Ge-In and Al-In systems), all of the particles were composed of two phases of constituent elements with the different morphology. For the second group (Ge-Mg and Si-Mg systems), the particles were composed of two phases of the pure element in the inner part and the eutectic in the outer part, which were formed through the reaction between a pure element in the solid state and condensed vapor. For the third group (Cu-Zn system), the particle grown under the adequate conditions was composed of two alloy phases. For the fourth group (Cu-C_<60>, Fe-Ni and Fe-Mg systems), in which the last two particles were formed by using different apparatus, the particles showed the features different from those of the other 8 systems. Their morphological features were discussed in relation to both the preparation conditions and the growth process with reference to their phase diagrams.
