The purpose of this research is applying rigid plastic finite element method to geotechnical engineering, comparing with circular arc method. First, this research considers the extent of ground for computation and mesh size dependability. Then it considers the efficacy of singular point. As a result, singular point was very useful and extent of ground should secure velocity field. Then, the best extent of ground is proposed. From the above results it can be said that rigid plastic finite element method was applicable to geotechnical engineering. Moreover, accuracy was improved greatly rather than circular arc method.
