The present paper is the sixth and last one in a series subtitled "Words for Music: Choice of Texts in Italian Madrigals". In the first paper, words appearing in the texts of five voice madrigals composed by Marenzio and Gesualdo were analyzed and compared from the viewpoint of evaluating Text as Words rather than Text as Poem; and in each of the consecutive papers, the discussion was concentrated on Marenzio's specific group of madrigals and/or madrigal book(s) to see the chronological changes of his taste. As the last paper of the series, the present one deals with the two madrigal books which have not been discussed yet: Madrigali spirituali (1584) and Madrigali a quattro, cinque et sei voci. (1588). As in other preceding papers, texts used in the two madrigal books under discussion are broken down into single words, analyzed, examined, and compared with the words used in texts for other madrigals of Marenzio. It is concluded that Madrigali spirituali shows the last flames of the old-fashioned madrigal type, while Madrigali a quattro, cinque et sei voci. was a little too early turning point toward the new type of madrigal with a strong tragic tendency, which was to bloom several years later.
