This is the second study in an ongoing research project where I verify and examine by means of analogy the process in which a musical work acquires its proper existential style based on, and stimulated by, the specific characteristics of an underlying musical idea. Following on my previous study of Prelude op.28-17 by F.Chopin, my work here focuses on "Debussy's Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune" which I analyze in this and the subsequent essay. First, I successively analyze the main musical idea and its gradual of metamorphosis. Then, in the light of these observations, I explore, detail, and theorize how an entire new order is created through enlarging microscopic structure into macroscopic ones. At the same time, we find that this musical piece, which seemingly has a circular form consisting of the principal sections of successive variations of main themes and the middle section, creates, in fact, its own irreversible (non-circular, asymmetric) structure, metamorphosing and unfolding itself with a new method sharply different from the classical motif-work. We will see also that a new, macroscopic system is built on more abstract dimensions, and that the entire system could be realized only through deep and close analogies with the underlying musical idea.
