Othello are apt to be thought a tragedy of jealousy. But it doesn't seem suitable to regarad jealousy as a theme of this play; it understimate the hero Othello. Because jealousy is a negative emotion. We should examine this play from a different point of view. It is clear that Othello is given a big emotion as his identity. And gradually, it is corrupted by Iago as the play goes on. Although Iago is a villain, he has a power of intellect, namely, reason is his identity. Therefore I think that we can see this play as a conflict between emotion and reason.
