The objective of this paper is to clarify the distribution characteristics of building that wall surface is covered with plant in Nagoya City. The field survey of green wall buildings using the bicycles was conducted in 2002. Survey items were building type, stories, structure, building area, direction of planted wall of the green wall buildings. Furthermore, surface temperatures of the planted and non-planted parts of the green wall building were measured using the radiation thermometer. Following findings ware obtained. 1,191 buildings that wall is covered with plant were confirmed in Nagoya City. We find that 52.0% of the total green wall buildings consist of housing, 12.0% of industrial factory, 7.3% of apartment house and office each, etc. 52.5% of the total buildings was constructed by wood, 26.0% by reinforced concrete, 21.2% by steal, etc. Over 80% of the total green wall buildings is low rise building of two stories or less. The temperature difference between the planted and non-planted surfaces of the green wall building increased with outdoor air temperature. The maximum surface temperature difference was 6 degree Celsius in summer.
