1. During the past two years, the writers have observed a leaf-spot disease of waterlily which causes brown or light grayish brown, circular, semi-circular or elliptical spots on the upper surface. 2. The morphological and the taxonomical investigations of the causal fungus have led the writers to recognize that the disease is a kind of Anthracnose caused by a new species of Gloeosporium. 3. The present paper deals also with the results of its cultural and inoculation experiments, and the diagnosis of the fungus is given under the new name of Gloeosporium (Colletotrichum) nymphaeae HEMMI et KAWASE.
