• The luteotrophic activity of ovine prolactin was evaluated by the progestin concentration in ovarian venous blood in a hypophysectomized rat, the hypophysis of which was ablated 2 days and the blood collected 4 days after mating. Single intravenous injection of the prolactin did not stimulate ovarian progesterone secretion but successive injection with the same total dose as the single injection (1 or 4mg of ovine prolactin) was effective. A clear effect on 20a-Hydroxypregn-4-en-3- one secretion was not obtained irrespective of the mode of the prolactin injection.
