The Sunabe site was found by Mr. James Watson in 1959, and the brief summary of the finds was made by Mr. S. Tawada in the 1960 Bunkazai-yoran published from the Culture Assets Committee of the Government of the Ryukyu Islands. The site is located on the western coast near Kadena village, but the Midden is now completely destroyed by quarrying. Accordingly, remains are rarely found on the site. The present finds of the site are pottery sherds and four stone axes. Except for one, the axes are so badly damaged that it is difficult to infer their original shapes. Pottery sherds can be divided into five typological classes, consisting mostly of those of the Early period. Although the site, in terms of the sherds, can generally be taken as lasting from the Early to the early Middle period, the present sherds fail, in lack of their precise features, to show the lower limit of the site to be in the Early period.
