In this paper, we propose a stateless autoconfiguration scheme for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) with hierarchical topology (consisting leader and member nodes) by considering the global connectivity with minimum overhead and scalability. We reduce overhead and make our scheme scalable by eliminating the broadcast of duplicate address detection (DAD) messages in the network. In our proposed scheme, a joining node selects one of the pre-configured nodes for its DAD operation. That pre-configured node performs DAD operations on behalf of the new joining node. Our simulation results show that our proposed scheme reduces overhead and is scalable. This proposed scheme also provides the efficient method to heal the network after partitioning and merging.
