4G mobile communication system requires the throughput of 10-100Mbps. Adaptive modulated OFDM system is promising technique for increasing the throughput. In the pilot symbol assisted high-speed packet transmission System, the size of data symbols is generally considered to be small compared to the coherence time. However, OFDM symbol duration is longer than a single carrier, so that the packet duration of the pilot symbol assisted high-speed packet transmission system is long. In this case, the change of channel conditions is too fast to be followed by channel estimator at the receiver in high Doppler frequency so that many errors occur in data demodulation processing particularly in the last part of data symbols. To adopt the conventional adaptive modulation scheme using the lookup table that have been read from BER curve for various modulation schemes in the AWGN channel, its throughput performance is poor in high Doppler frequencies. This is because pilot and data channel state information is slightly different. Therefore, novel adaptive modulation scheme is required to solve the above-mentioned problem and to satisfy the target parameters. In this paper, we consider the BER of various instantaneous Eb/N_0 that includes the demodulation errors in high Doppler frequency. The coherence time is enough larger than the packet duration over 10 packet times, the channel can be well approximated as an AWGN channel. On the other hand, when the coherence time is not large enough compared to the packet duration, the channel cannot be approximately as an AWGN channel. It means that the demodulated data includes the detection errors, so it is necessary to consider the detection errors of demodulated data. In this paper, we propose the pilot symbol assisted high-speed packet transmission system based on adaptive OFDM using a novel lookup table to consider the demodulated errors and evaluate the BER performance.
