The genus Syndicus Motschulsky (Coleoptera, Scydmaenidae, Scydmaeninae), known to occur in Southeast Asia and Australia, is revised. The generic name Syndicomorphus Franz, and the subgeneric name Andmsyndicus Franz are recognized to be junior synonyms of Syndicus s. str. Syndicus javanicus Franz is a subjective synonym of S. leai Franz; S. kinabalui Franz is a junior synonym of S. leai; Horaeomorphus bhutanensis Franz, S. (s. str.) leai Franz, and S. (s. str.) sumatrensis Schaufuss are transferred to a newly established Semisyndicus, a new subgenus of Syndicus. Syndicus (s. str.) indicus var. rugosicollis Franz is recognized to be a separate species, and described as S. rugosicollis sp. nov.; S. (s. str.) klapperichi Franz is reduced to a subspecies of S. paeninsularis Schaufuss. All previously known species are redescribed based on the type material; the following new species and subspecies are described (in parenthesis country of the occurrence): S. (s. str.) gibbus sp. nov. (India), S. (s. str.) samchianus sp. nov. (Bhutan), S. (s. str.) echinatus sp. nov. (Malaysia), S. (s. str.) paeninsularis heissianus subsp. nov. (Malaysia), S. (s. str.) p. bilobatus subsp. nov. (Thailand), S. (s. str.) difficilis sp. nov. (Thailand), S. (s. str.) pseudothailandensis sp. nov. (Thailand), S. (s. str.) puncticollis sp. nov. (Thailand), S. (s. str.) saketianus sp. nov. (Thailand), S. (s. str.) sculpturatus sp. nov. (Thailand), S. (s. str.) vietnamensis sp. nov. (Vietnam), S. (s. str.) lamdongianus sp. nov. (Vietnam, Laos), S. (s. str.) yaeyamensis sp. nov. (Japan), S. (Sem.) alienus sp. nov. (Vietnam), S. (Sem.) gidaphuianus sp. nov. (Bhutan), S. (Sem.) tenuicornis sp. nov. (Laos, Thailand), S. (Sem.) leai ranongianus subsp. nov. (Thailand), and S. (Sem.) sinensis sp. nov. (China). General morphology of Syndicus s. str. and Semisyndicus is thoroughly described, important characters of all species (including aedeagi and spermathecae) are illustrated, and identification keys are provided. For the first time, members of Syndicus are reported to occur in Vietnam, Laos, China, and Japan.
