The bryological exploration and the bryophyte herbaria in Taiwan were reviewed. The history of bryological exploration in Taiwan can be traced back to as early as the end of the nineteenth century. The collectors of bryophytes in Taiwan were chronologically introduced by ascending order. Their destinations in Taiwan and purposes of visiting were further discussed. The eight herbaria with large collections of bryophytes are (1) Department of Biology, Tunghai University, Taichung, (2) Department of Botany, National Taiwan University, Taipei, (3) National Museum of Natural Science, Taichung, (4) Department of Biology, National Cheng-Kung University, Tainan, (5) National Taiwan Museum, Taipei, (6) Institute of Botany, Academia Sinica, Taipei, (7) Taiwan Endemic Species Research Institute, Nantou, and (8) Department of Landscape Architecture, Tunghai University, Taichung.
