"The Convention on the Rights of the Child" is one of the international treaties concerned with protecting and guaranteeing the children's rights. It was adopted in the United Nations General Assembly on 20th November, 1989. The Japanese Government ratified this treaty in March this year, and as a result the Convention came into effect on 22nd May, 1994. Regarding the legal status of the treaty, it is below the constitution, but ranks, generally speaking, above law. Therefore, the Japanese Government that already ratified this Convention has to revise many kinds of Iaws according to the contents of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In this paper, I discuss several possible areas for the revision of the domestic Iaws relative to Child Welfare, which require urgent attention of the Japanese Government.
