By this experiment the authors found that both Cinder and En-Tout-Cas are specially small in density as compared with the soil in general, but they resemble the sandy soil in other characters. But it has been acknowledged that En-Tout-Cas is better than Cinder as the anti-freezing material. It is a matter of course that in case Cinder is mixed with the natural soil the nature of the mixed material depends upon the nature of the latter, but it is desirable that the layer amount than 400f Cinder over 2mm in particle size will be employed for the construction of the ground of the athletic-field. The brine (8-15 Baume) has been used as the preventive material against freezing at the ground in which Cinder or En-Tout-Cas had been used for the consolidation of the surface ground, but in order to prevent the ground from freezing perfectly, at least the brine over 15 Baume should be used. In case the use of such a high degree brine is impossible, formation of freezing layer may be avoided by employing larger Cinder in particle size in the middle layer, and by practising the suggestion as mentioned above, even in case the brine is not applied. The superiority between Cinder and En-Tout-Cas has not been determined only by this experiment excepting anti-freezing, but it seems to as that Cinder is easier to use than the other, now that the physical property of the athletic-field may be controlled by the mixing percentage of Cinder.
