This article is primarily concerned with the treatment of quantification in English in the framework of formal semantics. We first show that Reinhart's argument for the treatment of ambiguity by entailment does not work well with quantification in English, and that the postulation of Quantifier Raising into the organization of grammar provides us with a clue to the solution of scope disambiguation. Second, a rough sketch of fragment F_2 given by Chierchia and MacConnell (1990) is provided to show that syntax and semantics are constructed in one-to-one correspondence, and that Logical Form generated by the application of QR is required to be mapped onto truth conditions generated by the syntactic rules of Predicate Calculus so that they can be semantically interpreted solely by the composition rules of semantics.
