It is the author's notion that the number of the students hoping to engage themselves in the teaching profession has been decreasing in the severe employment circumstances. The purpose of this study is to examine change, if any, in the students' consciousness attending the teacher preparation course by comparing the results of the two questionnaires with the duplication of the item analysis, one given in 1991 by the author and the other in 1982 by Professor Teruo Takenaka of St. Andrew's University. The interesting findings among others are as follows: 1. There hasn't been any perceptual change in the consciousness of the two groups of the students about their views on the teaching profession, on presently-working teachers, on the determination to become teachers, and on the off-campus practice teaching. 2. The students in the present study are prepared to take their time longer in order to pass the teaching certificate examinations than those in the previous study. 3. The value evaluation of the teaching profession is recognized highly by those in the previous study conducted during the depression age and not so prominently by those in the present study during the age of this prosperity. The present study indicates that there has been some increase in the number of the students who intend cognizantly to engage themselves in the teaching profession rather on a long-term basis. It is the author's worry that this may lead to a decline in the concentration and quality level of their academic achivement in the teacher preparation course and in their college life as well.
