Since the very beginning of the foundation of our new medical school in 1970, the integrated teaching program has been planned and discussed. The intensive planning and launching of the program were performed by the Education Committee of our faculty. In the present communication, the philosophy and actual curriculum of the new program are described in addition to the record of processes in the arrangement of teaching subjects integrated according to organ systems. The systems for this program are as follows: neurosciences, infection, growth & development, cardiovascular, respiratory, blood & hematopoietic, endocrine, digestive, renal & urinary tract, reproduction, mental function, sensory & informational, musculo-skeletal, and social. The actual subjects of lectures are provided by the Subject Committees composed of experts from appropriate departments. Almost all subject-committee chairmen are professors in clinical medicine, since the objectives of the program are focused on the teaching of basic medical sciences as background for clinical curriculum. The teaching of introductory parts of basic medicine is performed departmentally in order to ensure the instruction of philosophy and methodology of each field in basic medical sciences.
