Nearly 40 percents of accidental death inside home have been occurring in the bathroom every year. In most cases of them, the people were fainted and drown to death due to sudden illness. Alarm systems for preventing such accidents have been under consideration, though none of them has reached to feasible level. Authors are also studying the system that enables to make judgment weather a person had sunk in a bathtub or not. In that system, an ultrasonic sensor is used for measuring the distance between the ceiling of bathroom and the top of the person's head. This paper describes the concept of the alarm system, outline of the test equipment and the measurement results. Reasonable result was obtained by using this system, although it has been left as a problem that the measurement accuracy sometimes deteriorated.
