Combination tones, which are among well-known sensary phenomena, refer to tones that are perceived even though they cannot be physically existent when two or m-ore tones are sounded at the same time. There are three types of combination tones : summation tones, caused when two di-fferent frequencies are added (f_2+f_1), difference tones, caused when one of two different frequencies is subtracted from the other (f_2-f_1), and missing fundamentals, caused when different-frequency tones on harmonic series are sounded (2f and 3f, etc). Summation tones, faintly perceived when two low tones (f_1 and f_2) are sounded in large volume, will offer few musical problems. But difference tones and missing fundamentals, always perceived strongry enough, will pose problems that cannot be ignored in terms of musical acoustics. Missing fundamentals, particularly, have a number of effects upon many elements that compose music, such as perception of pitch and sound quality of instruments, cord arrangement, orchstration, etc. A variety of studies have been done to explain why the above-mentioned phenomna come about, but few works have tried concretely to evaluate perceived quantities of missing fundamentals. This paper has tried to measure these quantities and give a model on it for musical acoustics.
