If the problem of an ecological crisis is constructed in theology relative to Japan, one should focus on the excellent sense the Japanese people have about Nature, which was nurtured by its long history. In fact, the concept of Zen represented by Daisetz Suzuki and others, has had great influence on occidental researchers studying environmental thought. On the other hand, Japan is also known as the country that originated corporate pollution caused by rapid industrialization, including Minamata disease. This demonstrates that the traditional naturalistic views of Japan could not prevent environmental destruction. This paper attempts to search for an ecological theology in Kazoh Kitamori's Theology of God's Pain by focusing on the sensitivity of pain and toughness that matured in the psychological traditions of Japan. The view of God developed in the work clarifies the pathos aspect, which is important in constructing an ecological theology. Moreover, externality and the self-nature of the pain of God are cultivating a possibility of positioning an ecological crisis in perceiving God. The concept of "co-paining" drawn from above, becomes the theological basis of mankind sharing the pain of creation in Nature.
