The deep-sea gastropod fauna around Nansei Islands was surveyed via dredging and bottom trawling by the T/S Toyoshio-Maru, R/V Tansei-Maru and the tugboat Daiyu-Maru during the years 2001-2004. About 230 species were collected alive at depths of from 200 to 1500 m, and 198 species were identified to at least generic level. This total excludes some immature or incomplete specimens. 128 species in total were recorded for the first time from around the Nansei Islands, including 119 species that were recorded for the first time from Recent Japanese waters. 103 species could not be identified from literature, and most of them are regarded as undescribed species. Comparison with the results of our previous survey in Tosa Bay showed that 35 species, including three undescribed ones, commonly occur both in Tosa Bay and around the Nansei Islands, but that their vertical distributions were significantly deeper in the Nansei Islands than in Tosa Bay.
