The deep-sea gastropod fauna of Tosa Bay was studied by means of bottom trawls by the R/V Kotaka-Maru and R/V Tansei-Maru during the years 1997-2000. As a result, more than 160 species were collected at depths from 200 to 3200m, and 148 species were identified to at least generic level, excluding some immature and undetermined specimens. 37 species were not identified as any species recorded from Japanese waters, and most of them are considered to be undescribed. 52 species in total, accounting for one third of those examined, are here recorded for the first time from Tosa Bay. The vertical distributions of these species are also shown in detail, and supplemented with information from selected literature.
